Guidelines for Firearm Safety Handling
Firearms
Security & gun safes is a big issue for any owner or prospective owner.
Later in this articel we will make storage recommendations and give you
advice about gun security safes. To being though, we want to provide some
good guidelines about handling firearms.
| If you are an experienced firearm owner, you may
already have wisdom passed down by others and helpful experience.
However, this article might help you double-check yourself. On the
other hand, new gun owners should read this thoroughly in order to
protect themselves, their family, and others. |

Here are the first five guidelines:
- Keep the gun unloaded until you are ready to use
it.
- Handle any gun you handle as if it was loaded.
- Before handling a firearm, be sure you understand all its
features and how it operates.
- Do not touch the trigger until you are ready to shoot.
- Take time and make sure you are thinking
clearly -BEFORE SHOOTING.
Some other things to think about:
- Trigger locks are mechanical devices and can fail.
Still handle the gun as if it might fire.
- If someone passes you a firearm, or you are
passing it to another, before any exchange is made---make sure the
weapon is unloaded
- Be a spokesperson for firearm safety....especially
if you witness unsafe behavior.
- Don't be too proud to go to a shooting range and
receive expert instruction. Remember this also gives you a chance to ask
questions you may have.
- As obvious as it seems, never point a gun at
anyone or any thing you don't intend to be a target.....never get
careless in this regard.
Firearm Storage
There are two reasons to store your firearms. The first
is to keep them out of the hands of others. The second is to protect your
investment.
Any large gun safe will keep guns out of the hands of
children. They all come designed to be bolted to the floor. Two
burglars are not going to easily cut through a bolt and then carry out a
safe of this size --- especially if they are in a hurry and don't want to be
seen. Aside from the size, there is a huge difference in burglary
proofing between safes. Browning for example really is "the best" as their
motto claims. They have fail-safe after fail-safe devices to keep burglars
from successfully drilling their way into the safe. Essentially they
can destroy the lock, and still not access the interior of the safe. If you
feel at risk for burglary, we highly recommend a Browning. In addition,
Browning has some of the best fire protection in the industry.
If you are not concerned about burglary, you may make
due with a less heavy duty safe. It depends ....if you plan to add to your
gun collection, we think it is best to make the once-in-a-lifetime purchase
of a high quality gun safe.
